French Pop

This week we considered French Pop, perhaps the polar opposite of the krautrock. It's great stuff though; simple, catchy, romantic, all the good mushy stuff. Too bad though, because the server got screwed somehow and didn't record the show. Well, here is a play list of what we played. Although No Wave No Diego usually plays music that is on the "cutting edge," we still think a simple good pop melody goes a long way.

Krautrock

A (snotty) BBC crictic once said, "there are two kinds of aesthetics: a German and a French." This week we considered the "German" approach towards rock/pop music. Essentially, Krautrock combines the rigor of German avant-garde (many Krautrock musicians were trained under the like of Stockhausen) with the free spirit of American/British rock and roll. We here at No Wave No Diego think Krautrock rocks and is a force to be reckoned with. Oy vey!

Ahead of the Pack

This week we loosely focused on "avant-garde" music of the 20th century. Music that contained Various techniques were featured: chance, serialism, minimalism, etc. We also organized a concert of two works: "Four" by Mehrdad Yazdani and John Cage's classic silent piece. "Four" was a premier performance and more details about the piece and performance to be posted later.
